Albert Monroe

A dear friend of ours sent us this photo via email.

Look closely. Who does it resemble? Albert Einstein?

Now stand 15 feet away. Who does it resemble now? Marilyn Monroe?

Amazing what some people can do with photoshop.

So what's the moral of the story? 1) Beautiful from afar. When you are close, it's far from beautiful. 2) Beauty and brains do mix. 3) You got to be close to someone to discover their gem.

Let us know if you can come up with more. In the meantime...enjoy.

I Love You Papa

Maggi Mee

Austerity drive. That's the advise we have been getting and giving out lately since the adjustment in our fuel prices.

We were in Berjaya Times Square recently and thought; to save money, we will catch our lunch in a little coffee shop inside the complex.

Maggi mee and cincau should be affordable right? Well it cost us RM3.20 for a bowl of Maggi Mee with a few strands of vegetable and another RM2.20 for a glass of cincau. A bowl of Curry Mee with a few some long beans and a few Tau Fu cost us RM5.00.

Really, either I have to moonlight sometime or I have cut further our spending.

Second Job

Some years ago we were told by our Government that Saturday is declared a holiday so that we spend quality time with our family. There were a time when advertisements were running on TV to encourage us to do the same.

Today, on New Straits Times, Page 13 of the Prime News section...an article with the title "Amirsham : Get second job to meet rising cost." caught my attention. The first two paragraphs read

"KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians including civil servants, are encouraged to get after-office of weekend jobs to cope with the rising cost of food and fuel.

The move is to stop people from falling from the middle to poor-income bracket, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Tan Sri Amirsham A. Aziz."

(italics added)

Now how about that? Not only will we be loosing our Saturdays we may even loose our nights too. We are really heading to the slums if this will to continue. So what shall we do? What can we do? Anyone out there has a good suggestion? Looking forward to hearing from some of you.

"Hulk" On The Street

Is that a "HULK" loose on our street because he was angry with the recent fuel hike? Or is he and ordinary guy who had just turn green with envy...over something?

Double Shockers

This morning we were informed by our neighbour that their car was stolen early this morning and we slept through the whole commotion. The thief / thieves broke the padlock and got into the car and just drove off while the neighbour's mom (who happens to have just got up, screamed at him / them).

Just last night I was mentioning to our house helper to be extra careful since the price of petrol is going up and that inevitable other things, whether edible or not, will follow suite. This will eventually be translated into more crimes. Didn't expect it to happen so soon and so near to home.

There is another passage that I recall and it's from Matthew 6

Mt 6:19
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

Mt 6:20
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Mt 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So where is my treasure? Where is your treasure?

Ivan's First Milestone

As I was leaving my Mom's heading back home, Ivan was with me and we got into a conversation about God and his Holy Spirit. That got me started on telling him about man's sin (the naughty things that he would usually get himself involved in, like hitting-back at his Ko-ko) and that all these naughty stuff that we do makes God unhappy and that He would not allow people who had been naughty into His heaven. The only way that we could go to heaven was if we say to Jesus that we are sorry and that we need His help to stop doing these naughty things that was making God unhappy. And we need to ask Jesus to come into our heart, to be our Lord and Saviour. And with that, I helped Ivan to say a prayer to ask Jesus to come into his heart...and I continue to pray that God will help him to increasingly learn to love and obey Jesus with each passing day... and to let those around him know this great salvation plan that God had given to them.

Petrol Price And Electricity Bill Going UP! UP! UP!

2008 will be a year that will be remembered as a year full of events. We lost the value of the 1 sen coin. The tsunami in Malaysian General Election. The cyclone in Myanmar. The earthquake in China. The sinking of our Ringgit.

Petrol will cost us RM2.70 from RM1.92 per litre effective midnight tonight. Tried to fill up my petrol tank earlier this evening but the queue was way too long. So I gave up the idea and will have to live with the fact that I did not take up the opportunity to save RM15 for my half tank of petrol. Just found out that the government will be giving us (who drives small CC cars) a rebate when we renew our road tax and mine is due next month...Yahoo!!!. But this aside...I will not be surprise when everything goes up in price.

Our PM will revise the electricity tariff too. For us it will be up by another 18%. Sigh!!! But wait. The Selangor Government is giving us free 20 litres of water every month...beginning in June.
So what can we say? I can only recall these few verses :

Mt 6:25
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

Mt 6:26
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Mt 6:27
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?

Mt 6:28
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

Mt 6:29
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

Mt 6:30
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Mt 6:31
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

Mt6:32
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

Mt 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Mt 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

So really it's beyond our control. If we are to rely on treasures here we will sure be disappointed. If we will to look at all the problems that confront us...many of us will be suicidal. GOD or the LORD JESUS CHRIST is the only ANCHOR that anchor us solidly. We are called to rest on HIM because HE cares for us. We are called to cast our burden upon HIM.

If there is one legacy that I could leave with my kids, it would be this "Don't looks at things surrounding us..look up to our LORD JESUS CHRIST."
