Ivan's First Milestone

As I was leaving my Mom's heading back home, Ivan was with me and we got into a conversation about God and his Holy Spirit. That got me started on telling him about man's sin (the naughty things that he would usually get himself involved in, like hitting-back at his Ko-ko) and that all these naughty stuff that we do makes God unhappy and that He would not allow people who had been naughty into His heaven. The only way that we could go to heaven was if we say to Jesus that we are sorry and that we need His help to stop doing these naughty things that was making God unhappy. And we need to ask Jesus to come into our heart, to be our Lord and Saviour. And with that, I helped Ivan to say a prayer to ask Jesus to come into his heart...and I continue to pray that God will help him to increasingly learn to love and obey Jesus with each passing day... and to let those around him know this great salvation plan that God had given to them.

My God is a Promise-Keeping God

Work had been (and still is) really challenging and as hard as I tried to trust God in my trying circumstances, I was complaining and whining a lot...to God and to my family, friends and colleagues. My routine every morning would start with prayer, or more like crying out to the Lord, before the day started. Then after sending Ian to school, I would head to the office cafeteria for breakfast and my personal quiet time with God, usually doing my BSF questions during this precious time with God. However, on this particular morning, I flipped to Exodus 6 which detailed God's promise of deliverance to the Israelites who were suffering as slaves under the Pharoah's wicked and punishing ways, just before their exit from Egypt. And then God spoke to me through the following verse :

Exodus 6:5 "I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant."

I felt so comforted because God had heard my cries...knew my "suffering"...and remembered His promise made to me back in August 2007 (from Isaiah 41:9b-10, 13-14)...a promise that would carry me through the many challenges I would be facing, challenges He already knew about then when He first gave me His promise because He is the :
  1. Promise-Keeping God - He remembers and keeps His word
  2. Unchanging God - He doesn't change His ways, His plans doesn't depend on what man does or plans and He is the same God who delivered the Israelites then who delivers me now
  3. Sovereign God - all things are under His control and nothing or no one can thwart His sovereign plans to fulfill His plans according to His good will and purposes
  4. All-Knowing God - nothing escapes His eye, no one can hide from Him
  5. Personal God - He is the Creator and Almighty God but yet, He is my Personal God who knows and meets my every need, the God of all wisdom and comfort; nothing is too difficult for Him nor does he consider anything too small for me to bring to His attention.
...and this Almighty and Great God...is MY GOD.

"Protein" In A Cup

This morning was really gloomy. It rained almost the entire morning. (The thunder never boom, the lightning never cracks. It would have been great to start this story if it did...but it didn't)
After sending my son to school, I accidentally knocked my head against the car door. Ouch!!! That hurts. "Perfect" morning I thought. So maybe a good morning breakfast would help. So off I went to my favourite store for a bowl of noodle and a glass of cool longan drink. Aah!!! Great noodle and was finishing my drink with the longan inside, when suddenly I realise one of it was not a longan but a......well boiled dead LIZARD (My wife calls it protein). (So if I fall ill or die tonight...now you know what happened.)
Heard of strange findings in food...but that only happens to other people...not me....how wrong can I be.
Strangely...today's bible reading is from Matthew 6 : 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you eat or drink..." Sure gave a different meaning to this verse now, doesn't it? I will never look at this verse the same again. Does our GOD have a humour?

Our God Is A Prayer-Answering God

Last Tuesday, Ian couldn't complete his homework in time, thus was not able to attend his BSF class. So yesterday morning, I told him to pray and ask God to protect his time so that he would be able to go for BSF. So we prayed together in the car, asking God to either arrange for less homework or if there's a lot of homework, to enable Ian to finish them in time before I come back to pick him up in the evening.

So off to school he went and as per our usual routine, I called him after he came back from school. And our conversation goes something like this :

Me : Hi Darling!
Ian : Hi Mee (y'know, as in short for Mummy...)
Me : How was school?
Ian : Fine.
Me : How much homework have you got?
Ian : Not a lot.
Me : How many?
Ian : 2 only.
Me : What are they?
Ian : English and Maths activity book.
Me : Easy-lah, so you can finish quite fast right, we have BSF tonight.
Ian : Yeah. Mee, God answered my prayer hor?
Me : Yeah, He did.
