Singapore Trip - Day 2

It's a Sunday and we wanted to go to the church down the road but because of the exhaustive day, yesterday...we really were zonked out.

The "Brunch"

So we have decided to walk over to the market that's opposite the hotel to have our "brunch" which is a breakfast and a lunch rolled into one.

We had, curry mee (S$3.00), Dumpling (S$3.00), Wan Ton Mee (S$3.50) with Coffee-On-The Rocks and Cincau (S$1.80)...and this is for 2 adults and 2 kids. We are actually trying to limit our spending.

The MRT And The Bus

After which we walk to the nearest MRT station (that's only 5 mins walk away) and took a train westward to Jurong.

Upon reaching Jurong, we took a bus (from the Jurong Bus Station that's right next to the Jurong MRT Station) to the Singapore Science Centre.

The Singapore Science Centre
Here, I'll let the photos speaks for themselves...since "A Picture Paints A Thousand Words."

The In-Between-Meal

After the Omni Theatre, we drop by at a little corner of the Omni Theatre to catch a In-Between-Meal.
The Dinner

Peter met us at the Science Centre and took us up for dinner with his family. I must say, that's the best meal we have had and the best meal for the whole trip. The kids went to the playground after our dinner.

All in all it was a great time fellowshipping with his family.

Trip Back - To Hotel Only
Dinner's over and now it's the trip back to the hotel. (Please note of Ivan, our map "reader" throughout the trip.)

Singapore Trip - Day 1

6th December 2008

The Drive

As a 10th Anniversary gift, my brother gave us a 7 - day free stay in a Singapore hotel. We planned to start our journey on Saturday morning but because of some unsettled business, we only managed to leave Kuala Lumpur around 2.30pm. One thing we didn't realise was that the following Monday was a Public holiday...so needless to say, we were caught in an entourage of cars moving south.

We were caught an a hour and a half jam between Nilai and Seremban and another (about 40 mins) at the Causeway. We were finally greeted by the lovely Singapore air and atmosphere at around 10.30pm.

The Hotel

I really didn't have a clue which hotel we were going to until the night before...that's because I did not want to expect too much. Without knowing then, my wife happen to have an opportunity to see the hotel and it's surrounding when she was down in Singapore a few months ago for job training and Ian check out the hotel via the Internet.

We were actually given two rooms. One with a double bed and another with two single beds.

The Dinner

When we have checked in into the hotel we quickly walk out to catch our dinner (Yes at around11.00pm). We took a 10 mins walk down the road and we were at the Food Court. They were still serving Dim Sums, Fried Noodles, Soup Noodle, (great) soya drink etc.

Malaysia Vs Singapore
One thing we notice is that you still feel safe walking on Singapore roads but not in Malaysia. We don't even want to walk out of our house after 8 .00 or 9.00pm because of the frequency of snatch thieves and muggers.

The other thing is that the roads are relatively clean and laid with lovely plants.

Seat Belt And The 4th Passenger

Today's E Star says :-

Friday December 5, 2008

No summons for fourth passenger

The Road Safety Department has clarified that the fourth passenger in the backseat of a car will not be issued a summons for not wearing a rear seat belt.

Well, somebody IS listening. Yahoo!!!!

Seat Belt Or Overloading

Today's E New in the Star

"If seat belt ruling doesn’t get you, overloading will

PETALING JAYA: The fourth rear passenger might get away for not wearing the seat belt but the driver could be fined for overloading his vehicle, warned Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh."

Do you get the feeling that "someone" is trying to create a law to "catch" you somehow somewhere, no matter what? This is the feeling I got from reading this headline. Wonder what they will do with the motorbikes that have more than one pillion rider? How about those who ride their motorbikes without the safety helmets or those who speed through the red traffic lights without a care in the world? What about those who ride against the traffic flow?

Well enough said.

Do As You Like

I noted something disturbing yesterday when I was waiting at the Traffic Light. SO I took a picture of the situation then.

Notice the Blue 'L" (for Learner) plate at the back window of the Kancil car? This means that the driver is driving with an "L" license and thus he or she is taking his or her driving license WITH a Driving Instructor sitting next to him or her.

The light is red and the Kancil car is sitting on the Yellow Line meant for the pedestrian to cross when we are not supposed to even cross the White Line before it.

Now is it any wonder why many of us are not concerned about the traffic laws, when the Expert, The Teachers of the law, the ones who should be teaching and showing you the laws, are not concerned about the law.

Petrol And Chilis

Our petrol will be sold at RM1.90 per litre. Down 10 sen from RM2.00. But because of the sudden jump from RM1.92 per litre to RM2.70 per litre in June 2008, the damaged has already been done. We see prices of food, electricity etc jumping upwards then, in response to the upward adjustment. Until today, majority (especially electricity, which according to "certain people" depends heavily on fuel to produce) remains at the post June price. So can the certain people tell that "certain people" that the world has already moved on?

As a record, the price of red chilies cost RM15.00 per kilos compared to RM5.00 per kilos. No this is not because of the fuel, its because of the changed in the weather.

1 In A 1,000,000

The bag we found in our rubbish bin

What are the chances that you will pick up a RM5 from the ground? 1 in 10,000? How about picking up a RM5 from the ground and on the same day a bag full of credit cards, driving license and apartment keys...on the same day? 1 in a 1,000,000. This happened to me yesterday.

Yesterday while walking back with a kids after a short badminton stint, I notice a RM5 bill lying on the ground. With nobody nearby I guess in this case is a finder's keepers.

Later the same night while on the way out for dinner we noticed a bag in our rubbish bin. I picked it up...to the disgust of my wife (because it came from the rubbish bin), to check it out. Found some credit cards, membership cards, a driving license and two sets of apartment entry cards and keys inside. But no money neither was there any hand phone.

Located a name card and we called. Turn out to the owner's husband and we quickly arrange to meet to hand back the handbag to them. I cold see it was a relief to the couple when they got the bag back and I must say it was a relief for us too to return the item back to the rightful owner.

As A Record...

This morning we went out as a family for brunch in a nearby coffeeshop. I took out RM20.00 and wanted to see how far our money can go.

There were 3 adults and two kids (who already had their daily dosage of milk).

So we ordered 2 plates of Hong Kong Chu Cheong Fun (RM2.90 per plate), 1 plate of Fish Ball noodle (RM3.80) and 1 plate of Pork Noodle (RM4.00). As for the drinks, we ordered 1 black coffee on the rocks, 1 Ice Lemon and 1 Ice Lemon tea (RM4.60)

What came back was RM 1.80
