Trip - Genting Highland Day 1

Date : 28th December 2008

The day started normal enough, just like any other day but in the Tham and Phon's respective residences, the air was abuzz with excitement and enthusiastic chatter as each family member finished up the packing of whatever personal belongings into the vehicles. We were off to Genting Highlands for a few days, for some family time together. It's been awhile since we last had a family trip and it's always a welcome, even though we see each other every day over dinner. Now that my nephews and niece are all grown up, 2 in university now, and Mom's getting along in age, the opportunities to spend as much time together have become all the more fleeting and precious. So we loaded up what seemed like luggage and belongings fit for a platoon (???) of boy scouts going for a week's hike into the jungle. With the whole jingbang of us, it would cost more than an arm and a leg to feed us all in Genting. So we had to do the necessary...
Our Luggage

Break For Lunch

We stopped by at Bukit Tinggi for lunch and vege-shopping. The restaurant had a little farm at the back and the air was already slightly cooler then.

On The Way Up

Naturally, Ian and Ivan wanted to sit in Ah-Boo's car...but of course, after all, both the older cousins were in there and the car had a sky-roof, which the boys tookl the opportunity to experience the crisp, mountain air first-hand. With the development of mankind, and the new roads, it took us, what used to be 1 hour, only another 20 minutes or so to get to our apartment.

People Mountain People Sea

As it was a long weekend plus yearend, we already expected mountains and oceans of people in the highland township. It took Ben almost 2 hours to find a parking space and when he walked into the First World Hotel...phoo whee...there were people everywhere. Really scary. And this were just the people waiting to be checked-in. What about those who were already enjoying themselves in the arcade, casionos and theme parks??? No wonder it took Ben 2 hours just to park.

Weather

The weather in Genting was a far, far cry from KL's hot and humid weather. We were met with unending gusts of blusttery wind and could barely make out the scenery outside our apartment window. Despite the weather, Ah-Boo, Kao-Mo, MH and MJ were gamed to take the boys out while Mom, Sis and I walked around in the hotel. Ben was still looking for parking amidst all this. After wandering aimlessly around for awhile, Mom decided to check out the refurbished casino at the main Genting Hotel where she and Dad used to haunt many years ago.

Our Delicious Dinner Together

And after a long and cold wind-filled day, nothing felt more comforting than a good, hot steamboat dinner. Mmmmm....perfecto!!!
